Activism: World Partnership Walk
The World Partnership Walk is coming to cities across Canada on May 25th. The World Partnership Walk is the largest annual event held in Canada in order to raise funds while increasing awareness of the movement against global poverty. Those living in Ottawa and London can take part in the walk on June 1st.With the aim of improving life for those living in impoverished communities across Africa and Asia, thousands of Canadians will be taking part. Setting itself apart, 100 per cent of every dollar raised goes to international development programs. Donations will not be eaten up by administration overhead. All money collected will go towards education, the increasing of rural incomes, grow community-based organizations and improve health care.
Entering its 24th year this year, the World Partnership Walk was started by the non-denominational Aga Khan Foundation of Canada. The Aga Khan Foundation is a registered charity in Canada and for over 25 years has been working towards ending poverty around the globe.
This year's walk should see more than 38,000 Canadians take part. To make it happen there will be hundreds of volunteers and support of corporate donors. To date the walk has collected over $40 million, and last year's total which they hope to top this year was more than $5 million.
