Weird: One Hundred Kilogram Pure Gold Canadian Bullion Coin - Million Dollar Face Value
The Royal Canadian Mint's Sussex Drive location is opening its doors to the public for the display of the worlds only one hundred kilogram pure gold bullion coin. The coin has a $1 million face value. Imagine carrying that around in your pocket!
The coin is to date the largest coin ever minted - both size and dollar value. You can view the million dollar coin by taking a guided tour of the Royal Canadian Mint.
The Royal Canadian Mint's headquarters are located in central downtown Ottawa in the same historic building that the Mint was founded in 1908. The coin on display was crafted by dies created by the Royal Canadian Mint. The Mint also creates coins and designs for circulation and for commemorative coin issues.
Members of the public can visit the Royal Canadian Mint while in Ottawa Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm and on the weekends between 9am and 5:30pm. Consider making a reservation as space is limited. Reservations can be made by calling toll-free 1-800-276-7714.
